Welcome to Kibitzing with Kytherea! Whether you're looking for guidance and support or just help settling a specific problem or dilemma, Kibitzing with Kytherea offers something for everyone.
There are many obstacles and barriers that we have to face in life. We have the choice to confront them and overcome them or deny them and remain troubled. Many times it is the fear of the unknown that causes us to remain comfortable in our chaos. Let Kytherea help you face the unknown and guide you on your journey.
Are you a wood elf in love with a dark elf and your parents just won't understand? Are you a troll who rather eat vegetables then a nice juicy gnome and are afraid to admit it? Are you looking for a way to tell a guild mate that passing gas in the guild hall pool to make bubbles is not funny, it is just disgusting? It is Kytherea's desire to make you feel safe and secure as you explore issues of all types. She wants to provide you with support and advice in hopes of alleviating your problems and making each day more productive.
Send your problems by email to Kytherea at cdelzer@soe.sony.com with "Kibitzing with Kytherea" as the subject. Kibitzing with Kytherea will be a weekly feature on EQPlayers and will be scheduled to appear on Monday afternoons.

Dear Kytherea,
I am really getting tired of all the large steps and giant buildings spread around Norrath. Do you know how hard it is to go up steps that are up to your waist?
I guess I should explain. I am a gnome. Everyone thinks we are short, but that isn't the case. Gnomes are normal-size, everyone else is just freakishly tall! But all contruction is based on human height and the gnomes are left with the short end of the stick. At least the Plane of Knowledge got it right by making a right-sized bank, but most of the time it is filled with humans, orges, and trolls, blocking the way to the banker. I simply cannot use the main bank -- I can't reach the teller over the counter!
Who do I talk to about getting things fixed? A quick reply would be greatly appreciated. My legs are beginning to look like treants from jumping up so many flights of stairs! (A slow response would be useless since gnomes are on the verge of taking over Norrath anyway. Haven't you noticed how we replaced human guards in PoK with some of our own creations?)
Fenbin Dazzlebright
Proud to be a Gnome!
Dear Fenbin,
Of course I know what it is like to be height challenged in this world of absurdly tall creatures. I am a halfling after all! Short of chopping them all off at the knees and bringing them down to a normal size I am not sure what can be done. Perhaps get all the normal sized folks together and petition to get counters sized down and more normal sized stairs made for easier access.
Look at the bright side, when it rains the freaks block us from the rain and when the sun is blaring down we always have shade!
Sincerely,
Kytherea
Dear Kytherea,
I am an Erudite who has taken the path of a monk, and am, as far as I know, the first one of my kind. I can't find any colleagues on Odus, and when I petitioned the city council to form a guild and train other Erudite Monks, I was laughed out of Erudin Palace. My question is, should I move to Antonica and try to get a teaching position at the Qeynos or Freeport dojos, or should I stay in Erudin and continue to seek out other Erudites like me to train them?
Sincerely,
Issel
Dear Issel,
It certainly stands to reason that there are other Erudites who wish to train as monks. If the City Council will not support your petition to form a guild and train others then perhaps you should search out those who may wish such training and approach the Council together. There is power in numbers. Erudites are quite intelligent, or so I have heard, so perhaps if they see that this is not just one misguided individual but that there are others of a like mind, they may approve your request and permit a monk guild to be created in Erudin.
If all else fails, then you would probably find it best to seek out a teaching position within the Qeynos or Freeport dojos. I know it is a difficult decision to leave you home but you will find more satisfaction in your life if you follow your hearts desire then if you try to conform to the will of the High Council.
Sincerely,
Kytherea
Greetings,
I will soon be marrying my soul mate, a wonderful barbarian beastlord, however there is a problem! He insists on having his wolf warder be part of the wedding party as the ring bearer. Of course I realize that a beastlord and his warder have a special bond and it is only natural to want your best friend to share such a special day with you. His warder is also very well trained and well behaved. The problem is, I seem to be allergic to his warder.
Whenever the warder is around I start to sneeze and my eyes water and swell up! I really don't want to spend my entire wedding day looking like something a Vah Shir dragged in but I also don't want to alienate my husband-to-be by demanding his warder not attend the wedding. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Allergic bride-to-be
Dear Allergic bride-to-be,
This is a serious problem that extends to more then just the wedding day. Beastlords are very attached to their warders and are often never separated for long. You certainly can not ask him to stop being a beastlord and refrain from calling his warder to his side. If you have such a severe allergy how will it affect the rest of your life together? How will you handle it is he wishes his warder to travel with you, sleep in the same room with you or just generally be nearby all the time? You might talk to a local cleric and see if there are any potions or unguents you can use to help alleviate the allergy symptoms if you really love your fiancé and are willing to deal with the allergy. If you are not willing to deal with the allergy, I am afraid my dear bride-to-be, that you must consider calling the wedding off and both you and your fiancé go your separate ways.
Sincerely,
Kytherea
Dear Auntie Kythera,
I have a guild mate who has a gambling problem. He loves to make wagers about jumping off of things, the higher the better. He is constantly making wagers with others that he can jump off of this building or that tower and survive. Now I really don't care if he wants to make these wagers and jump, heck I'm even happy to resurrect his corpse when he dies, which happens most of the time. What I am getting tired of is his constant amnesia! Every few jumps when I resurrect him he seems to forget some of his abilities and gets angry with me about it. He seems to think I am somehow sabotaging him by making him spend time to relearn things after he returns to life. I have tried to explain the mechanics of bringing someone back to life but he is a warrior and just doesn't have much more of an attention span Tunare gave a bixie. How can I convince him that I am not the one sabotaging his growth, but that he is doing it to himself?
Sincerely Aggravated
Dear Aggravated,
Anyone who has the slightest intelligence knows that the payment one makes for the gods to restore life to a dead body is some of their life force, magical capacity and training and that time is all that will heal these things. Warriors, however, are not often known for their brains but for their brawn. I'm afraid that you will never be able to get it through his thick skull that you are not the cause of him losing his learning, he will never realize it is one too many times landing on his head that is causing this. You can either accept him as he is, flaws and all, continuing to return him to life when he bites off more then he can chew or you can walk away and leave his broken corpse lying on the ground for some other sucker to raise and take his abuse.
Sincerely,
Kytherea
