So, how do mobs know our names? – Discussion started by Community Member Loladen-Prexus
"Just peaked my curiosity today. We were in BoT and a group member got summoned. The mob said "You will not evade me !" That got me wondering, how does it know who we are? As far as I'm concerned, this is our first meeting, and we never had time for a formal greetings because we just ran up to it and started beating it down."

"Because it's floating above our heads."

"I turned that off but they still know my name ..."

"I guess if you consider this a roleplaying game, each of us are unfolding our own story. Thus the monsters know who we are when we come because they have heard of our feats in our adventuring."

"What!? you mean you don't walk up to it and say, 'Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die.'? I think, early on, only 'intelligent' mobs could summon (like raid encounters). I'm a relative noob so I could be wrong...but that would make sense. Gods and 'higher' mortals would almost be expected to know such things...and it was used later to increase the mobs difficulty, without considering lore/roleplaying implications."

"Well, truthfully mobs know more than just your name.

They know what deity you follow. They share information about you so know how many of their number you have killed and what quests you have done that are not in their interest. Oddly they have not learned the difference between the /who command and the /who all command so you can fool them about your race.

This all leads me to believe that the mobs are hackers and should be banned."

Alternative to audio triggers – Discussion started by Community Member Trevik
Alternative to audio triggers for the hearing impaired. This is something that came up in a discussion I was having recently. Audio triggers have become a very important part of this game. They are a nice little helper to some people, and almost vital to others. However, there is no alternative option available, at least to my knowledge, for EverQuest players with hearing disabilities. What kind of effort would it take from a coding standpoint to implement a similar mechanic for them? In what ways could it be implemented?

We had a couple of ideas:
  1. The ability to create audio triggers that pop up a separate window when they go off. This would still give you something aside from the normal spam of text to catch your message. The downside, of course, is you still have to be looking at the screen.

  2. A tie-in with a peripheral device such as a mouse with a "rumble" feature, that vibrates for a second when your audio trigger goes off. With this idea, you wouldn't have to actually see the screen to know your trigger went off. However, you would need the special peripheral device, and you would still have to have physical (or visual, depending on the strength of the vibration) contact with the device to know that it activated.

Neither of these are ever going to be the same as being able to crank up your volume so you can run to the other room in your house and return when you hear a cue sound, but they are at least options for people that can't hear those cues. Any thoughts or other ideas?

Money Troubles - Discussion started by Community Member Loladen-Prexus

Am I the only one having money trouble? Let me tell you a tale of woe!

I started playing EverQuest December 25, 2000. Since then I have NEVER had more then 60,000pp. Yes, your heard me right. 60k

I now come to you guys to find a way to remedy this. At 66, my gear is yucky - using some ornate because it was cheap, looking to upgrade to the cultural if I could get some cash.

Please Oh-ones-of-deep-pockets! Share your knowledge to me. I am a monk. Even though generally monks are poor, I wish to have riches and fancy gear!

Ideas for Bank and Bag Space Issues – Discussion started by Community Member wawawookie
I had an idea last night and wanted to share it. Why can't we have a Scabard, quiver, and spell pouch slots on our inventory. This would allow us to but a bag worth of items of those type into a specific container for those items only. The scabard would allow any type of weapon or shield thus freeing up an entire bag in my inventory for useful stuff like tradeskill items. The quiver would work the same way allowing any thrown item or range item to be placed inside it again saving a entire bags or more worth of items. Also a spell pouch would be useful in a few ways allow us to put spell items such as pears, necro items, fire beetle eyes, bat wings, and maybe even potions heal, clarity, alacrity etc into it again saving at least one inventory bag slot.

Also along those lines a disguise kit able to hold all the different illusion and maybe even the familiar items that are now becoming all the rage with LON and other items similar. I feel these improvements would greatly benefit the everyday players and free up much needed bank and player inventory space.
