Meet Rageful Swampmunsta Server: Xegony |
Salem, Oregon How long have you played EQ?
I've played since nearly the beginning in June 1999. A good friend of mine started playing, and I quickly became intrigued by the game by playing a few spare minutes here and there when he was taking a break. I scrimped and saved for 3 months, eating not much more than ramen noodles so that I could buy a computer just to play EQ. What other MMOs have you played?
Diablo online, EverQuest 2 and Vanguard. EverQuest has always remained my favorite however. What type of work do you do?
These days I fly UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles) for the Army, but I have plans to earn a degree in business administration and run an audiology business with my wife. How long is your typical gaming session when playing EQ?
Heh… just about any length of time. Some days it's just a few minutes to organize my characters bank or say hi. Other days it can be for a full day on a free weekend. Normally though, I'll play for 2-3 hours at a time. What does a typical EQ day consist of for you?
I usually end up starting in the bazaar and pick up some random potions that I may need to stock up on, or depositing money and items in my bank to deal with later. I then head off for an adventure, sometimes with a group and sometimes alone. I usually prefer to stick to the old world as I enjoy those zones, but I'm up for anything. What was the race and class of your very first character?
Tricky question for me. It consisted of quite a few different characters on my friend's account that I tried out. A barbarian warrior was my first creation (and was deleted when I drowned just outside of Halas, not knowing how to swim). My first real character, however, once I had my own account was a human monk who also ended up being one of the first humans on any server to earn the Whistling Fists designed for the Iksar that finishes with a hand in to Cazic Thule. What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most?
I've always had a deep love of fantasy games from reading various novels, and started out with Dungeons and Dragons. If I'm not playing a game similar to EverQuest, then I enjoy playing football video games. What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other then playing EverQuest?
I'm probably one of the more active EQ players out there. I have a deep love for road cycling, and I ride hundreds of miles each month. What is your highest level in EQ?
My highest level character is Kiember, a level 71 barbarian beastlord named after my pet 1/2 wolf. Considering all of the time that I spend deployed in the military, spending time with my wife, and cycling, it's pretty high feat. What race and class is your main character?
My main character these days is a Troll Berserker. I've always wanted to play a berserker from before they were even part of EQ, but I was afraid to leave my higher level characters and start again. I finally couldn't resist, and I'm loving it. What do you like the most about the class you have chosen for your main character?
My favorite aspect of the Berserker is just the pure energy the class has. It just screams doing as much damage as possible with an axe, and I can imagine my character with wildly gleaming eyes swinging away at his enemies. Does your main character worship a deity?
Rageful is a bit different than many trolls. While he fears Cazic Thule like any good troll, he sends his loyalty to Rallos Zek as the two share a deep love of battle. How did you choose your main character's name?
Rageful came after many, many attempts to come up with a good name. Unfortunately, it seemed like all of my first-choice ideas had already been taken. I ended up with Rageful as a tribute to his wild ways in battle. Which classes in EQ have you NOT played?
I've been around in EQ for what seems like forever, and there is not a class that I haven't played to at least level 25. Most classes I've played to level 50 or higher. What is your favorite expansion?
Kunark by far. There was such a huge excitement for a whole new land and alien (to Antonica) playable race. What is your favorite zone?
I would say Cazic Thule, but that was in the old days before the zone was changed. I leveled many a character in that place, and even have a warrior with a Rubicite Breastplate out there. It's just not the same anymore, though, so I'd have to say Everfrost. It just gives off an untamed, harsh environment feel to it and I get immersed in the zone. What is your favorite NPC?
Hmmm.....I'd probably have to say Lady Vox. I've spent countless hours in her dungeon and died many times to her or her minions. She still remains one of my favorite challenges in the game. The lore between her and Lord Nagafen is intriguing as well. Which expansion do you like the least?
That's a really tough question, as there are bits of each expansion that I like and dislike. If I had to make a choice, I'd probably say Omens. I just never really got involved in the lore much during that expansion. Which zone do you like the least?
That's a tough choice, but I'd say MMM or Plane of Innovation. I'm more of a traditional fantasy guy and not a big fan of robots (clockworks) in my swords and sorcery genre. Which NPC do you like the least?
Sgt Slate. I still resent that guy for ruining many a good trading day in East Commonlands tunnel back in the day. He's just not a nice guy for an opportunistic merchant. What is the most platinum you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Somewhere along the lines of 200,000 pp for a Tranquil Staff Do you have an item you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons? If so what is it and why do you keep it?
As I mentioned before, Whistling Fists. That quest took a huge amount of faction work as a human, but it was worth it to see the looks of surprise on newbie and veteran Iksar players alike to see a human freely strolling through Cabilis. The fact that the quest ends with turning in quest items to Cazic Thule in the Plane of Fear just makes it all the more important to me to keep. My heart beat so loudly when I had to do the final turn in. That was long before corpse summoning in the guild lobby and after PoF stopped becoming an important zone to go to. If I died there, my body would be lost forever. What do you like best about EverQuest?
The lore, I can't say enough about how much I've gotten into the story line. I miss the GMs and Guides of old who held events to help the storyline out. What do you get out of playing EverQuest?
A sense of accomplishment and exploration while meeting new friends. I still enjoy the game after all of these years. Describe your best experience from playing EverQuest?
Many years ago when Velious was coming out, there were GMs working on getting the story of the new land out. I happened to be part of one of the events in the story line. A bard, along with her pet drake, told us a story of this new land and of the dragons. No fighting, just pure lore that immersed everyone who was listening. Even my best friend, known for power gaming and hatred of roleplaying, fell in love with the story. Do you run or work for an EverQuest Fan Site?
No, although at various times I've helped do write ups of various quests or playing methods for class sites.
